What is Mesmerism?

As today is World Hypnotism Day here is some information on the scientific history of Hypnotherapy which dates back to the 18th century.

Developed by a German Physician called Franz Mesmer who named the therapy Mesmerism. Franz used Hypnotherapy to treat his patients throughout Paris and Vienna. Clinical Hypnotherapy is increasingly used throughout Europe. Many clinics and hospitals are incorporating Hypnotherapy with great success. France, Belgium, Germany, and the U.K. have probably the highest number of clinicians who practice hypnosis. The French Society of Anesthesiologists has created a new division dedicated to clinical hypnosis. In some hospitals, roughly half of all operations involve hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy can successfully treat anxiety, obesity, stress, nail-biting, smoking, addiction, chronic pain, panic attacks, fear of public speaking, and money blocks. Clinical Hypnotherapy has a 75 -85% success rate in putting Irritable Bowel Syndrome into remission.

The BBC produced a documentary called The Science of Hypnosis Kathy Sykes Professor of Sciences and Society at Bristol University. Professor Sykes investigates Hypnotherapy and its use in pain relief, entertainment, and therapy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?
